Three handmade Terroir Ceramics cups in rainbow, purple-pink and teal glazes

The studio

Where Eastern clay meets Western fire — one-of-a-kind pottery, shaped by hand, finished by flame.

Terroir Ceramics is the pottery studio of Troy Kuang in Redmond, Washington. Terroir — of the earth: the idea that a place leaves its character on what is made there. Troy’s work pulls two directions at once — the patience and restraint of Eastern clay traditions, and the bold glazes and open flame of the West — and lets them meet in the kiln.

Troy stamps his initial into every piece before it goes to the kiln — his signature, pressed into the clay. Pieces are made in small batches and released in drops. For the first batch, the votes are a simple show of interest — no deposit, no commitment, no payment — and they tell the studio how many of each piece people would be interested in, so the right number gets made.

The Making

From a slab of clay to a finished pour — the star wine chiller, start to finish.

How the drop works

We make a small first batch, and you tell us what to make. Vote for the pieces you would buy — voting is interest only: no deposit, no commitment, no payment. It simply tells the studio how many of each piece to make, and the most-voted pieces are made first. When the drop opens, the pieces sell until they’re gone.
